The Hazardous Waste Manager serves as the technical lead for cradle-to-grave waste management operations, including waste characterization, storage, inspection, transportation, reporting, and disposal activities, while supporting NASA’s environmental compliance mission across multiple facilities and operational areas.
Job Responsibility
Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing hazardous, universal, PCB, and industrial solid waste, including RCRA requirements for LQG facilities
Maintain compliance with hazardous waste accumulation, labeling, storage, and shipment requirements
Interpret and implement evolving environmental regulations and provide recommendations to maintain compliance and minimize risk
Oversee hazardous waste management activities from generation through final disposition ("cradle-to-grave"), including: Waste characterization and classification
Sampling and analysis
Packaging, labeling, and manifesting
Onsite transportation and accumulation
Offsite shipment to approved Treatment, Storage, Disposal, and Recycling (TSDR) facilities
Manage satellite accumulation areas (SAAs) and central accumulation areas (CAAs), ensuring compliance with storage time limits and regulatory requirements
Conduct and oversee inspections of hazardous waste accumulation areas and regulated waste operations to ensure regulatory compliance
Identify deficiencies, document findings, and develop corrective action plans
Support internal and external audits, including regulatory inspections and NASA environmental compliance assessments
Prepare and maintain required hazardous waste documentation and reports, including: Hazardous Waste Reports (annual/biennial)
Waste profiles, manifests, and land disposal restriction (LDR) forms
Regulatory notifications and EPA/state reporting documentation
Maintain accurate records in compliance with NASA and regulatory requirements
Develop, update, and deliver RCRA hazardous waste management training programs for site personnel
