Job Description:

The Jr. Histology Technician is responsible for the collection, identification verification, processing, and embedding of Histology samples.

Job Responsibility:

  • Place tissue samples into wax blocks per SOP
  • Unload cassettes from the tissue processors as assigned
  • Check/communicate with Pathologists and Lab Coordinators regarding any questions and concerns
  • Monitor the Orphaned slide file daily
  • Reconcile “exception lists” and find missing slides for scanning
  • Scan all slides into scanners and provide edits per protocol
  • Run and maintain the Staining and Cover-slipping instruments
  • Accurately scan all slides and blocks returned from pathologists at benchmark
  • Process add-on requests in a timely manner
  • Accessioning biopsy submissions under fume hood
  • Organizing TRF with samples on grossing trays
  • Sorting priority and manifest samples
  • Receiving biopsy samples from other labs and organizing
  • Scanning of TRF’s
  • monitoring output to make sure there are no errors in getting these to Transcription
  • Pull and reconcile assigned pending lists
  • Awareness of quality control and calibration
  • Crosstrain and develop knowledge of multiple specialties within department/lab
  • Follows applicable SOPs, including safety and quality procedures
  • Maintains clean and organized work area
  • Restocks supplies as needed
  • Participates in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation
  • Consult with senior peers on non-complex tasks to learn through experience
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2- or 4-year degree in science-related field preferred
  • Laboratory skills, with experience setting up, running and operating lab instruments
  • Knowledge of medical and laboratory terminology and Histology procedures and equipment
  • Attention to detail and organized with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Effective communication skills and ability to exchange accurate information
  • Proficiency in the English language which allows for participation in team meetings, accurate entry of data into company systems and understanding of written directions
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Positive, can-do attitude
  • Personal computer skills, including strong typing ability and proficient use of Microsoft Office
