The Jr. Histology Technician is responsible for the collection, identification verification, processing, and embedding of Histology samples.
Job Responsibility:
Place tissue samples into wax blocks per SOP
Unload cassettes from the tissue processors as assigned
Check/communicate with Pathologists and Lab Coordinators regarding any questions and concerns
Monitor the Orphaned slide file daily
Reconcile “exception lists” and find missing slides for scanning
Scan all slides into scanners and provide edits per protocol
Run and maintain the Staining and Cover-slipping instruments
Accurately scan all slides and blocks returned from pathologists at benchmark
Process add-on requests in a timely manner
Accessioning biopsy submissions under fume hood
Organizing TRF with samples on grossing trays
Sorting priority and manifest samples
Receiving biopsy samples from other labs and organizing
Scanning of TRF’s
monitoring output to make sure there are no errors in getting these to Transcription
Pull and reconcile assigned pending lists
Awareness of quality control and calibration
Crosstrain and develop knowledge of multiple specialties within department/lab
Follows applicable SOPs, including safety and quality procedures
Maintains clean and organized work area
Restocks supplies as needed
Participates in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation
Consult with senior peers on non-complex tasks to learn through experience
Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent
2- or 4-year degree in science-related field preferred
Laboratory skills, with experience setting up, running and operating lab instruments
Knowledge of medical and laboratory terminology and Histology procedures and equipment
Attention to detail and organized with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
Effective communication skills and ability to exchange accurate information
Proficiency in the English language which allows for participation in team meetings, accurate entry of data into company systems and understanding of written directions
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Positive, can-do attitude
Personal computer skills, including strong typing ability and proficient use of Microsoft Office
