Job Description:

The Summer Work Experience program (SWE) is a six-week youth training program that provides high school students with disabilities the opportunity to earn a paycheck while gaining meaningful, real-world work experience in a positive and accessible environment. Through several 4–5 hour shifts each week, participants explore different job tasks and develop workplace skills such as communication, task focus, self-advocacy, and taking direction. Job Coaches support participants by working alongside them to help meet employer expectations, providing continued training, addressing performance challenges, and helping participants build relationships with coworkers and supervisors while developing natural supports on the job. The program spans six weeks from approximately June to July, and selected candidates must attend training sessions in April and May.

Job Responsibility:

  • Works alongside participant as needed to assist with meeting employer expectations with regards to task completion and speed
  • Continue to provide training to improve participant work performance after employer's training period has ended
  • Problem solves to create accommodations or other ways to address performance issues
  • Support participants to develop and maintain relationships with co-workers and supervisors
  • Develops and maintains natural support on the job and establishes working relationships with the supervisor(s)
  • Implement proper fading/re-entry techniques to ensure participant success
  • Maintains contact with MERS/Goodwill Case Manager assigned to the participant to report progress and difficulties
  • Completes agency documentation which may include, but not limited to, daily documentation of observations and job coaching/retention hourly log
  • When coaching for Summer Work Experience, documentation will include participant timesheets and weekly evaluations
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma and experience working in social services required
  • Associate's/Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Experience working in the field of social services with individuals with disabilities preferred
  • First Aid and CPR preferred
