ILM are looking for entry level VFX artists to join Sydney’s 2026 Animation Jedi Academy program. The successful candidates will reflect the innovative spirit, creative talent, collaborative mindset and passion for great filmmaking that define ILM. ILM’s animation department covers a wide range of animation work including character, creature and vfx animation. The artists use both proprietary ILM tools and mainstream software to achieve this.
Job Responsibility:
Character performance and creature animation for CG feature film and VFX projects
Working with vocal takes and dialogue scenes
Preparing and recording video reference
Facial animation using modern facial rigs
Cameras, staging and composition
Performing in a CG feature and VFX environment
Using ILM proprietary tools and pipeline
Requirements:
Junior level artists and Graduates with a genuine passion for animation
A demonstrated interest and foundational knowledge of filmmaking fundamentals, such as composition and storytelling
A basic understanding of animation methods and approaches
An adaptable mindset regarding new methodologies, showing an eagerness to integrate emerging technologies and automated processes
Great collaborators, curious learners with a blend of creative and technical skills
A Reel demonstrating evidence of your work in animation, and a general understanding of CG
Prepared to speak specifically to your work, detailing the creative vision and the technical choices
Must be an Australian Citizen or hold Australian Permanent Resident status
Must reside in NSW from the commencement of the course
Nice to have:
Further education in VFX, digital media or animation
