The Wyoming Department of Transportation is seeking one temporary intern for the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) team. The candidate will focus on developing a GIS system for analyzing historical roadway carcass data, migration corridors, and peak collision times as well as real-time carcass reports. The system will interface with GIS/ITS reporting systems to provide travel alerts to https://wyoroad.info. Https://map.wyoroad.info, and the Wyoming 511 mobile app for iOS and Android. The candidate will learn GIS, database, and development skills and will work with a team over several months to build a geospatial system with a dashboard.
Job Responsibility:
Participate in all phases of application development including requirements gathering, estimating phases or tasks, building, testing, implementing, and documenting for the purpose of developing complex transportation system applications
Assist in developing and maintaining the structural design of various databases, including back-end databases for database-driven websites and mission-critical applications
Assist in software application maintenance which includes testing and modifying or requesting modification to in-house developed applications
Software application training/assistance which includes aiding on any number of software applications used to do business within and with the section(s)
Statistical reporting, including developing/designing reports to display data gathered from multiple data systems
Documentation of applications, training manuals, and office processes
Works with packaged systems or customized programs to meet the needs of end users
Assists senior specialists in preparing detailed analyses, plans, diagrams, and verification procedures for existing and proposed business applications
Develops/designs reports to show trend analysis
Communicates results of analyses and efforts to support management goals and recommendations
Apply standards and protocols to data editing and updating procedures
Requirements:
Enrollment in computer science, software engineering, GIS, or related degree programs
Familiarity with SQL or NoSQL databases
Knowledge of ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar GIS platforms
Basic knowledge of Python, R, or SQL
Knowledge of work at this level requires a basic understanding of the principles behind specialized technical disciplines and experience developing basic business applications
Knowledge of Hardware and Software – must be very familiar with conventional software and hardware so that various tasks can be completed
