We are looking for an experienced IT leader to oversee and actively support the technology environment for a wholesale distribution operation in Winston Salem, North Carolina. This position combines day-to-day technical support with ownership of core infrastructure, requiring someone who is comfortable resolving issues directly while guiding future growth of the IT function. The role works closely with office and warehouse teams, so strong communication, practical problem-solving, and a service-oriented approach are essential.
Job Responsibility
Direct the daily operation, maintenance, and support of the company’s overall IT environment as the primary technology resource
Provide hands-on assistance for end-user hardware and devices, including PCs, printers, wireless access points, and handheld equipment used across the business
Manage and maintain Windows Server and VMware-based systems, including virtualized server infrastructure and associated hardware platforms
Support connectivity and basic network operations by addressing user access, remote connection methods, and switch-related issues as needed
Administer Microsoft 365 and related user access tools to help employees stay productive and secure
Troubleshoot technical problems across servers, desktops, peripherals, and operational systems, responding with urgency to minimize downtime
Oversee terminal emulation access used to connect with the company’s on-site midrange platform and ensure reliable user functionality
Execute and monitor scheduled daily data movement processes, confirming successful completion and resolving issues when they arise
Partner effectively with warehouse and business staff, delivering clear communication and dependable support during regular operations and occasional after-hours needs
Help shape the future IT team by contributing leadership, mentoring, and support structure as additional technical staff are added
Requirements
At least 7 years of IT experience, with a strong preference for candidates who have worked in broad, hands-on support and infrastructure roles
Proven capability administering Microsoft Windows Server environments in a business setting
Practical experience supporting VMware and virtual server environments
Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 administration and user support
Familiarity with foundational networking concepts such as user connectivity, tunneling, Telnet, and switch troubleshooting
Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills across hardware, systems, and end-user technology
Effective communication skills with the ability to support both office and warehouse personnel professionally
Nice to have
Experience with Active Directory, backup technologies, computer hardware, or configuration management is beneficial
exposure to warehouse, distribution, handheld scanners, Android devices, terminal emulators, or AS/400-style environments is a plus
