Job Description

About the Role We are looking for an IT Infrastructure Engineer (Cloud & Platforms) to join our growing IT team at Head Office in Gateshead. This is a varied and hands-on role, combining day-to-day infrastructure support with project and cloud engineering work. You will play a key role in maintaining our core systems, supporting the wider business and contributing to ongoing improvements across cloud, automation and platform technologies. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys both operational support and project work, and who is keen to develop their skills within a modern, evolving environment.

Job Responsibility

  • Support and maintain core infrastructure systems including servers, storage and virtualisation platforms
  • Monitor system performance, ensuring high levels of availability across the environment
  • Troubleshoot issues in a timely manner, providing clear updates to users and stakeholders
  • Act as an escalation point for infrastructure-related incidents, including Active Directory, VMware and storage platforms
  • Manage backup and disaster recovery processes to protect systems and data
  • Carry out regular maintenance, patching and housekeeping activities
  • Work on cloud-based solutions across AWS and Azure, supporting the design and implementation of new services
  • Contribute to migration and infrastructure transformation projects
  • Assist with building and maintaining infrastructure using automation and Infrastructure-as-Code tools
  • Support the development of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
  • Maintain accurate documentation and follow change control processes
  • Support asset management, licensing and compliance activities
  • Ensure systems meet agreed security and hardening standards
  • Collaborate with internal teams to deliver improvements and projects across the business

Requirements

  • Enterprise infrastructure environments (servers, storage and virtualisation)
  • Cloud platforms such as AWS and/or Azure
  • Active Directory and core Microsoft services
  • Backup and disaster recovery solutions
  • Automation or Infrastructure-as-Code tools (e.g. Terraform, Ansible)
  • Exposure to DevOps practices and CI/CD
  • Strong problem solver, able to troubleshoot technical issues methodically
  • Confident communicating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Well organised, with strong attention to detail
  • Able to work under pressure and manage high-priority incidents
