Job Description:

The Social Products team explores how to redesign familiar social products using the intelligence of our models to solve their problems. We envision going back to a world where social media is a positive force. We are looking for an engineer to focus on building new iOS experiences that reimagine how people connect, create, and share using OpenAI’s technology. You’ll help define the foundation of social interaction across our products — blending thoughtful design, modern iOS development and AI capabilities. We’re looking for engineers who thrive in small, nimble teams, bring creative product ideas to the table, and pair strong execution with sharp judgment. You should be comfortable operating with ambiguity, learning from experiments, and using those insights to refine both product direction and technical implementation.

Job Responsibility:

  • Build and ship new iOS experiences that showcase how AI can power authentic connection, creativity, and communication
  • Drive end-to-end development of social features — from prototyping and iteration to global-scale launch — using Swift and modern iOS frameworks
  • Collaborate closely with product, design, research, and backend teams to deliver intuitive, high-impact mobile experiences
  • Optimize app performance, reliability, and responsiveness, ensuring seamless experiences for users worldwide
  • Establish robust testing frameworks, refine app architecture, and ensure long-term maintainability and scalability
  • Provide technical leadership and contribute to the direction of OpenAI’s broader iOS platform and engineering best practices

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a focus on building and scaling iOS applications
  • Have shipped high-quality, user-facing apps that balance delightful design with reliability, performance, and resilience
  • Have owned complex mobile systems end-to-end — from architecture and implementation to monitoring and iteration
  • Are fluent in Swift and deeply familiar with the Apple ecosystem, including Xcode, UIKit, and SwiftUI
  • Have made thoughtful architectural tradeoffs in pursuit of speed, maintainability, and product impact
  • Care deeply about creating seamless, performant, and secure mobile experiences that feel intuitive and human
  • Enjoy collaborating across design, research, and backend teams to bring ambitious, socially-driven product ideas to life
What we offer:
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance for you and your family, with employer contributions to Health Savings Accounts
  • Pre-tax accounts for Health FSA, Dependent Care FSA, and commuter expenses (parking and transit)
  • 401(k) retirement plan with employer match
  • Paid parental leave (up to 24 weeks for birth parents and 20 weeks for non-birthing parents), plus paid medical and caregiver leave (up to 8 weeks)
  • Paid time off: flexible PTO for exempt employees and up to 15 days annually for non-exempt employees
  • 13+ paid company holidays, and multiple paid coordinated company office closures throughout the year for focus and recharge, plus paid sick or safe time (1 hour per 30 hours worked, or more, as required by applicable state or local law)
  • Mental health and wellness support
  • Employer-paid basic life and disability coverage
  • Annual learning and development stipend to fuel your professional growth
  • Daily meals in our offices, and meal delivery credits as eligible
  • Relocation support for eligible employees
  • Additional taxable fringe benefits, such as charitable donation matching and wellness stipends, may also be provided
  • Offers Equity
  • performance-related bonus(es) for eligible employees
