The Inventory Control Specialist ensures accurate inventory records by performing precise cycle counts, physical audits, and root‑cause analysis to solve complex discrepancies. This role requires independent problem‑solving, deep knowledge of manufacturing inventory flows, and the ability to investigate and resolve complex inconsistencies across raw materials, work‑in‑process (WIP), and finished goods. The objective is to maintain complete inventory accuracy throughout the production lifecycle.
Job Responsibility
Maintain comprehensive knowledge of the plant’s material flow, product lines, and inventory control processes
Conduct thorough cycle counts and physical audits of raw materials, WIP, and finished goods to ensure system integrity
Validate WIP locations and monitor high-priority areas and items to maintain variances within acceptable limits
Lead preparation and execution for annual physical inventories, including inventory control document management and reconciliation activities
Investigate inventory discrepancies, negative balances, and shortages using transaction histories, PO verifications, component variance reports and other supporting documents
Identify and correct discrepancies related to production errors, scanning mistakes, shipping/receiving variances, or incorrect substitutions
Expertly navigate ERP system, RF scanners, and MS Office (Outlook, Teams, Excel) to manage and communicate inventory status changes, transfers, and to resolve system inaccuracies
Review and interpret complex Bills of Materials (BOMs) to identify inaccuracies, decipher multi-level items, and execute necessary system corrections
Process and reconcile production documentation to ensure accurate movement of materials from raw components to finished goods
Effectively communicate inventory issues and resolutions to supervisors and production teams
Collaborate with Material Handlers and production personnel to maintain plant organization and identify procedural or housekeeping issues
Provide cross-functional coverage across various lines and operational areas as needed
Once proficient, train and mentor coworkers on inventory procedures and system functions
Proactively participate in the safety initiatives and report any potential workplace hazards
Contribute to continuous improvement efforts related to inventory accuracy and process efficiency
Perform other duties as assigned by leadership
Requirements
Experience in inventory control within a manufacturing or production environment
Proficiency with ERP systems (QAD or other manufacturing focused systems preferred)
Strong "detective" mindset with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex inventory issues
High attention to detail and the ability to retain and apply technical information
Effective communication, collaboration skills, and a track record of reliability and consistent performance
Do repetitive movements (hand, wrist, and arm)
Normal and/or corrected hearing and vision with good hand eye coordination
Walking, bending, twisting, stooping, climbing stairs, and lifting objects
Lift up to 35 lbs.
Withstand heat in excess of 95 degrees
Be exposed to wood dust and aluminum with no factors or hazards present to a disagreeable extent
