We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established manufacturing client seeking a detail-oriented Inventory and Cost Accountant to join their accounting team. This role is ideal for professionals with 3–5 years of manufacturing industry experience who are passionate about driving cost accuracy, improving financial processes, and collaborating cross-functionally to support operational excellence.
Job Responsibility:
Analyze and interpret financial data to assess the cost structure of products, services, and projects
Conduct variance analysis by comparing actual vs. budgeted costs
identify and explain discrepancies
Reconcile the inventory subledger to the general ledger on a monthly basis
Participate in the month-end close process, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and internal reporting
Prepare cost reports, financial statements, and forecasts, identifying trends and actionable insights
Assist in budget creation and management, ensuring alignment with operational and financial goals
Accurately calculate and maintain product costs (materials, labor, overhead)
Build and manage costing models to support pricing strategy and profitability analysis
Monitor inventory levels and carrying costs, supporting inventory valuation and optimization
Support cycle counts and physical inventory, investigate discrepancies, and report results
Implement and maintain a standard costing system to ensure proper cost allocation
Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax laws, and corporate policies
Recommend cost reduction and process improvement opportunities
Collaborate with operations, procurement, and finance teams to gather cost data and support decision-making
Contribute to estimating costs for new products, projects, or contracts
Support external audits related to inventory and cost of goods sold (COGS)
Perform other accounting and finance tasks as assigned
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
3–5 years of experience in inventory and cost accounting within a manufacturing environment
Strong understanding of standard costing, inventory valuation, and cost allocation methods
Proficient in ERP/accounting systems (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, etc.) and advanced Excel skills
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
Knowledge of US GAAP and relevant regulatory standards
Nice to have:
CPA, CMA, or progress toward certification
Experience with process improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.)
