We are looking for an Inventory Accounting Specialist to join our team in Shelby, Michigan, within the wholesale distribution industry. In this role, you will ensure the accuracy and reliability of inventory financial data, reconcile inventory records between systems, and monitor compliance with company policies. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve discrepancies, support inventory processes, and maintain audit-ready documentation.
Job Responsibility:
Ensure accurate recording of all inventory-related transactions, including receipts, transfers, adjustments, and returns, in inventory and accounting systems
Reconcile inventory data between the inventory management system and general ledger to ensure consistency
Investigate and resolve discrepancies in inventory quantities, units of measure, and transaction timing
Validate financial reporting of monthly inventory transactions and maintain compliance with company policies
Monitor open purchase orders and unmatched receipts to ensure timely resolution
Collaborate with operations, procurement, and warehouse teams to address process gaps and correct errors
Support cycle counts and physical inventory processes by validating results and recording adjustments
Maintain documentation of inventory reconciliation procedures and workflows for audit readiness
Develop and standardize reports and dashboards for tracking inventory accuracy
Communicate findings and recommendations to management to improve inventory processes
Requirements:
Proven experience in inventory control, cost accounting, or supply chain operations
Solid understanding of inventory accounting principles and reconciliation processes
Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail
Proficiency in Excel for data analysis and reconciliation
Effective communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams including finance, operations, and procurement
Familiarity with inventory management systems and accounting software, such as Great Plains Dynamics
Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively under pressure
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and integrity in handling sensitive information
