Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Interventional Radiologist to join a progressive and well-supported department in Scotland. This role is ideal for candidates with expertise in vascular and non-vascular interventional radiology, offering access to state-of-the-art IR facilities, a strong multidisciplinary environment, and opportunities in research, teaching, and service development. The department is a key contributor to regional trauma and specialist services, delivering a wide spectrum of advanced interventional procedures.

Job Responsibility

  • Perform a full range of interventional radiology procedures, including: Vascular and endovascular interventions
  • Embolisation procedures (e.g., uterine, prostate, varicocele)
  • Image-guided biopsies and drainages
  • Biliary and urological interventions
  • Contribute to dialysis access and vascular access services
  • Support trauma and emergency interventional radiology services
  • Participate in a 1:5 out-of-hours IR rota
  • Work collaboratively with: Vascular surgeons, Renal teams, Oncology and general surgical specialties
  • Participate in: MDT meetings, Morbidity & Mortality reviews, Service improvement initiatives
  • Contribute to the strategic development of interventional radiology services
  • Support undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
  • Contribute to radiology training programmes
  • Engage in: Clinical audit, Research projects, Innovation and service redesign

Requirements

  • MBBS or equivalent qualification
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • On (or within 6 months of entry to) the GMC Specialist Register in Clinical Radiology
  • Minimum 1 year NHS experience
  • Subspecialty expertise in: Vascular Interventional Radiology
  • Non-vascular Interventional Radiology
  • Competence in: CT / MRI imaging relevant to IR
  • Image-guided procedures
  • Higher degree (MD / PhD or equivalent)
  • Experience in: Teaching and training
  • Research and publications
  • Service development
  • Additional subspecialty interests (e.g., GI, colorectal, gynaecological intervention)
