Job Responsibility:
Facilitates complex communication between staff and clients or patients, which includes parents or guardians
Communication may take place in a medical or community setting
providing interpretation, sight translation, and/or translation of documents on an AVS (After Visit Summary)
Communication would be in languages other than Spanish
Requirements:
Minimum of two years interpreter experience required, preferably in a medical setting
Bilingual who speaks, reads and writes proficiently in both native and target languages (Rohingya) with ability to break linguistic and cultural barriers between patients and medical staff
Ability to shift from one language to another in simultaneous and consecutive mode of interpreting
Requires at minimum a High School graduate or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED)
Prefers completion of Medical Interpreting course to include ethics, medical terminology or proven linguistic abilities in medical interpreting
Must pass verbal and written proficiency tests with an overall score of 80%
Tests include solid knowledge of complex medical terminology through completion of Medical Terminology class or proven linguistic abilities in medical interpreting and knowledge of the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care (NCIHC) code of ethics
National certification must be completed within 2 years of hire either through CCHI or the National Board, and certification must be maintained
Exhibits guiding behaviors that reflect Children’s values and support our mission and vision
Computer and word processing expertise including MS Word, comfort with an iPad and working in our electronic health record
Good customer service skills, strong communication skills and excellent listening skills
Effective organizational skills with attention to detail including ability to prioritize and assess needs
Ability to multi-task in order to manage interpretation for more than one patient/family at a time
May have to travel between work locations of main campus Milwaukee Hospital and Southeastern WI/Metro Milwaukee clinic locations
