Job Description

Sales Engineer (Internal Sales) We are looking for a technically minded Sales Engineer to join a growing Internal Sales team within a well-established engineering and instrumentation business serving the UK process industries. This role is ideally suited to someone with a background in process instrumentation, applications engineering or technical internal sales who enjoys working closely with customers to provide technical solutions and commercial support. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting existing customers, developing new business opportunities and delivering high levels of customer service across a broad range of industrial sectors. About the Role Working as part of the Internal Sales team, you will be responsible for providing technical and commercial support to customers across a range of instrumentation and engineering solutions. The role will involve handling customer enquiries, preparing quotations, advising on product applications and supporting both internal and external sales activities. You will work closely with customers to understand their process requirements and recommend suitable technical solutions. This is a fast-paced and varied role that combines technical knowledge, customer relationship management and commercial awareness.

Job Responsibility

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective customers
  • Provide technical product and application support both pre and post sale
  • Prepare quotations and commercially competitive proposals based on customer requirements
  • Identify and develop new sales opportunities within existing and new accounts
  • Support customers with instrumentation selection and technical solutions
  • Work closely with internal and external sales teams to maximise business opportunities
  • Maintain accurate customer and opportunity records within CRM/CMS systems
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across processes and systems
  • Work towards agreed KPIs, sales targets and customer service standards
  • Assist in reducing customer returns, NCRs and credit requests through strong technical support and attention to detail
  • Attend product and industry training to maintain and develop technical knowledge

Requirements

  • HNC/HND or equivalent industry-based qualification in Instrumentation, Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • Previous experience within process instrumentation is essential
  • Experience in an internal sales, applications engineering, technical support or technical sales environment would be highly advantageous
  • Strong understanding of process industries and instrumentation products including flow, pressure, level and temperature measurement
  • Ability to interpret customer requirements and provide practical technical solutions
  • Commercial awareness with a proactive and customer-focused approach
  • Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills
  • Experience using ERP, MRP or CRM systems would be advantageous
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure
  • Team-oriented approach with a willingness to support colleagues and customers where needed
