Job Responsibility:
Evaluation of different US based high voltage Gallium nitride device technologies and R&D activities for high performance power electronics in EV charging and traction inverter applications
Conducting simulation and analytical study of optimizing wireless charging architectures for performance and integration leveraging novel power electronic components such as high voltage GaN switches
Scouting of onboard charging and traction inverter technologies and suppliers in the US
Scouting of emerging wideband gap semiconductor materials and devices
Requirements:
Currently enrolled in a bachelor or master’s degree program at an accredited college or university
Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (not just in major)
Have completed at least 60 college credits or be at least a rising Junior
Field of study: Electrical Engineering or related fields
Must attach a copy of college unofficial transcript
Ability to work full-time (36.25 hours/week)
Prior BMW Group experience (applicable to international J1 students only)
Experience in power electronics
Strong fundamental knowledge in power electronic topologies, circuit analysis, waveforms and controls applied to high frequency AC-to-DC, DC-to-DC and DC-to-AC inverters used in EV applications
High voltage wide bandgap semiconductors including GaN bi-directional switches
Proficiency in LT Spice circuit simulation of high frequency power electronic converters including novel Pulse Width Modulation based control and magnetics
Ability to develop simulation and analytical models to serve as preliminary verification of novel topologies and control schemes used in EV charging application
Passionate engineer with clear communication skills (presentation and documentation) and team-player mindset
Availability of 6 months preferred
Nice to have:
Experience in applying AI and ML to power electronics is a plus
