The BioMarin Summer Internship Program will enable students to gain valuable experience and knowledge of the processes and systems within BioMarin, while gaining an insight into the pharmaceutical/biotech industry. Over the course of 10 - 12 weeks our interns gain industry experience while working alongside our talented team on meaningful projects. Analytical Services & Process Analytics (AS/PA) supports BioMarin’s commercial and clinical manufacturing programs by coordinating analytical readiness, improving operational efficiency, maintaining data‑visibility tools, and driving process improvements across QC, Manufacturing, and Technical Development. AS/PA partners closely with Analytical Sciences in developing, validating, transferring, and troubleshooting analytical methods for therapeutic programs—including gene therapy and enzyme replacement—through all phases of CMC development. This work includes analytical method execution, supporting regulatory documentation, ensuring product quality attributes, and contributing to training for global QC and partner testing labs.This integrated partnership enables efficient, high‑quality analytical execution and seamless cross‑functional alignment across BioMarin’s development and manufacturing network, providing interns with a unique opportunity to contribute to impactful, real‑world analytical and operational initiatives. The intern will support initiatives that improve analytical operations, laboratory readiness, and cross‑functional efficiency within Analytical Services & Process Analytics (AS/PA). This role offers exposure to laboratory processes, analytical workflows, operational planning, data systems, and method readiness activities. The intern will contribute to projects that help the team enhance lab performance visibility, streamline key workflows, and prepare for upcoming lab space changes.
Job Responsibility:
Gather and organize data to support analytical performance insights
Interview team members to understand workflows and process steps
Create clear, visual documentation such as process maps or workflow diagrams
Participate in lab organization, planning, and readiness activities
Contribute ideas to improve efficiency, standardization, or data visibility
Present updates and summary findings to the team at the end of the internship
Requirements:
Student currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant scientific or technical field (Biochemistry, Chemistry, Bioengineering, Industrial Engineering, Data Science, etc.)
Must be available to work full time, 40 hours a week
Must be currently enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited U.S. based university or college and enrolled in the fall term after the completion of the internship OR have graduated within 1 year of the start of the program
Must be able to relocate if necessary and work at the designated site for the duration of the internship for on-site, hybrid roles
Strong attention to detail and ability to document processes clearly
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
Strong communication and organizational skills
Nice to have:
Experience with dashboards or data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, or similar)
Interest in analytical laboratory operations or biopharma processes
Familiarity with workflow or process mapping tools (Visio, Lucidchart, Miro)
