The BioMarin Summer Internship Program will enable students to gain valuable experience and knowledge of the processes and systems within BioMarin, while gaining an insight into the pharmaceutical/biotech industry. Over the course of 10 - 12 weeks our interns gain industry experience while working alongside our talented team on meaningful projects. The Systems and Implementation team is seeking a summer intern with a strong interest in AI, project management, and operational excellence, and a commitment to gaining substantive experience in building intelligent workflow solutions.
Job Responsibility:
Support the development of an innovative AI‑powered Co‑Pilot Agent designed to streamline project scoping, stakeholder analysis, process mapping, risk identification, and continuous improvement efforts
Hands‑on participation in the design, prototyping, and refinement of AI agent features that directly support project managers, process owners, and operational leaders
Translating process improvement frameworks into structured AI logic, drafting workflow templates, evaluating agent performance, and contributing to process optimization initiatives
Collaborate closely with cross‑functional partners across Technical Operations, Quality, Research & Development, and Digital teams to gather requirements, validate use cases, and ensure alignment with broader organizational needs
Assisting in the development of agent components using low‑code/no‑code AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot Studio
Supporting the creation of project scoping resources such as stakeholder maps and risk logs
Building process maps using tools like Visio, Miro, or Lucidchart
Identifying opportunities for automation or workflow enhancement
Support integration efforts with productivity platforms including Teams, SharePoint, and Power Automate
Contribute to user documentation, onboarding resources, and training materials
Requirements:
Student in their 3rd or 4th year pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data/Analytics, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline
Must be available to work full time, 40 hours a week
Must be currently enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited U.S. based university or college and enrolled in the fall term after the completion of the internship OR have graduated within 1 year of the start of the program
Must be able to relocate if necessary and work at the designated site for the duration of the internship for on-site, hybrid roles
Understanding of AI assistants, LLMs, or low‑code AI platforms
Experience with Python, Power Automate, or another scripting/automation tool (coursework ok)
Familiarity with APIs, data flows, or system integrations
Basic data analysis skills (Excel, Power BI, or similar)
Ability to create structured documentation (requirements, user stories, flowcharts)
Strong analytical and organizational abilities
Curiosity and willingness to learn new tools and frameworks
Clear, confident communication skills
Detail‑oriented, with strong critical‑thinking skills
Nice to have:
Exposure to Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement (DMAIC, SIPOC, VSM, Kaizen)
Experience with process mapping and workflow tools (Visio, Miro, Lucidchart)
Familiarity with Microsoft Power Platform or Copilot Studio
Understanding of prompt engineering or basic machine learning concepts
Coursework or projects involving UX/UI, automation, or enterprise data systems
