Job Description:

A Spokane-based nonprofit is seeking an experienced interim Senior Accountant or Controller to join on an interim basis. This role requires someone with a strong understanding of foundational accounting (especially debits vs. credits) and the ability to step in quickly to manage core accounting responsibilities with accuracy, independence, and minimal ramp‑up.

Job Responsibility:

  • Perform month-end close from start to finish, including: Journal entries, Accruals and amortizations, Prepaid schedules, Fixed asset schedules, Deferred revenue GLs
  • Complete and clean up complex reconciliations across the general ledger
  • Conduct GL cleanup: identify errors, correct entries, and ensure accounts reflect accurate activity
  • Apply strong knowledge of foundational accounting
  • Work through established close schedules and supporting documentation with light instructions
  • Independently understand accounting logic, complete tasks, and bring forward questions or exceptions as needed
  • Reduce workload for the Accounting Director by taking on senior-level tasks and backlog cleanup

Requirements:

  • Strong experience at the Senior Accountant or Controller level
  • Prior nonprofit experience helpful but not required
  • Proven track record handling heavy month-end close, reconciliations, and GL cleanup
  • Ability to work independently with limited direction and make logical, accurate decisions
  • Netsuite experience strongly preferred
