Job Description:

Our client, a well-established organization in the logistics industry, is seeking an Interim Payroll Manager to step in and provide hands-on leadership during a transitional period. This role will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day payroll operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and continuity for a multi-state employee population.

Job Responsibility:

  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing on a recurring basis, ensuring timely and accurate payroll delivery
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll-related questions, discrepancies, and escalations
  • Oversee payroll compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including tax filings and wage-and-hour requirements
  • Partner with HR, Finance, and external vendors to ensure payroll data integrity and proper reporting
  • Review and approve payroll changes including new hires, terminations, pay rate updates, bonuses, and deductions
  • Support audits, reconciliations, and payroll reporting as needed
  • Identify opportunities to streamline payroll processes and improve efficiency during the interim period
  • Provide guidance and day-to-day direction to payroll staff, if applicable

Requirements:

  • Proven experience managing payroll operations in a high-volume environment
  • Prior experience in logistics, transportation, or a similarly fast-paced industry strongly preferred
  • Hands-on experience with UKG payroll software preferred
  • Strong knowledge of multi-state payroll compliance and regulations
  • Ability to step into an interim role and quickly gain traction with minimal ramp-up
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working onsite in a deadline-driven setting
