Harmonic are delighted to be partnering with a leading energy trading and power generation business to hire an Energy & Carbon Analytics Lead for an initial 3-month engagement. Following significant growth and increased trading activity, the business is looking to strengthen several key finance and trading processes, particularly around carbon accounting, valuation, and reporting. This is a hands-on role sitting between Trading, Finance, and Data Analytics, focused on redesigning and implementing a revised carbon Weighted Average Price (WAP) methodology and improving reporting transparency across the business. The successful candidate will lead the refinement and implementation of the company's carbon WAP methodology, helping align Finance and Trading reporting while improving balance sheet transparency and valuation processes. This role will involve working closely with Trading and Finance teams to reconcile outputs, formalise methodologies, and embed the revised approach into existing reporting infrastructure.
Job Responsibility
Review and redesign the existing carbon WAP methodology
Reconcile outputs against existing accounting and reporting numbers
Improve balance sheet transparency across accruals, prepayments, and hedge positions
Implement revised methodology into Databricks using Python and SQL
Build and enhance MTM, realised/unrealised P&L, and valuation logic
Align Finance and Trading reporting into a single reporting framework
Support downstream reporting through clean and scalable data outputs
Document methodologies, assumptions, and calculation logic for audit and senior stakeholder review
Requirements
Strong experience within energy trading, commodities, or trading analytics environments
Previous exposure to forward contracts, valuation methodologies, or MTM accounting
Strong understanding of finance, accounting, and balance sheet impacts
Experience reconciling analytical outputs back to accounting results
Ability to work across both Finance and Trading stakeholders
Experience within UK or European energy markets
Nice to have
Exposure to carbon hedge products or carbon certificates
Experience across power and gas markets
Python, SQL, and/or Databricks experience
Familiarity with Power BI or similar reporting tools
