Job Description

A Beacon Hill client in the nonprofit space is seeking a Controller to join their Finance team in Philadelphia, PA (Hybrid). Our client is looking to hire an Interim Controller, or a Controller on a Contract to Hire basis. The ideal candidate will bring strong nonprofit accounting leadership, audit experience, and a mission-driven mindset.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, and cash management
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit standards
  • Manage fund accounting, including restricted and unrestricted funds
  • Support the CFO with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
  • Oversee annual audit process and serve as primary liaison with external auditors
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local nonprofit regulations
  • Oversee preparation and filing of Form 990 and other regulatory reports
  • Manage grant, contract, and donor-restricted financial reporting
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls, policies, and procedures
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff
  • support professional development

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • nonprofit experience
  • Prior experience in a Controller or Assistant Controller role
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit fund accounting
  • Hands-on experience managing audits and Form 990 filings
  • Experience with grants, donor-restricted funds, and compliance reporting
  • Proficiency with accounting systems and strong Excel skills
