Our non-profit client in Concord is seeking an interim Accounting Manager/Controller for a 3+ month engagement. This opportunity is ideal for a finance leader who enjoys being hands-on with the work but also guiding core accounting operations, delivering reliable financial reporting, and supporting a growing nonprofit environment with strong oversight and sound judgment. The role will partner closely with operational leaders, strengthen financial processes, and help ensure compliance across grants, audits, and day-to-day accounting activities. This role requires our leader to work 'in the weeds.' This role requires onsite work in Concord (5 days/week) and is expected to pay between $70-$85/hr. DOE.
Job Responsibility
Lead the month-end close cycle from planning through final review, making sure financial records are complete, accurate, and finalized on schedule
Review key accounting entries and reconciliation work to maintain integrity across the general ledger and related balances
Manage core accounting functions, including fixed assets, property-related accounting, and ongoing oversight of the organization’s books
Produce financial statements and other recurring or ad hoc reports for leadership, ensuring information is timely and dependable
Maintain a strong control environment that protects organizational assets and supports proper tracking of revenue, expenses, and program funding
Coordinate audit preparation by assembling schedules, supporting documentation, and reconciliations, while addressing auditor questions and resolving outstanding items promptly
Serve as a financial advisor to program and property stakeholders by translating accounting data into practical guidance for decision-making
Oversee grant-related financial reporting for government, corporate, and foundation funding sources, with attention to compliance and accuracy
Establish and refine accounting procedures, documentation, and standard workflows to improve consistency, efficiency, and scalability across the finance function
Coach and lead the accounting team, fostering accountability, focused growth, and a collaborative service-oriented culture
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a closely related discipline
At least 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including 3 or more years serving as a Controller in a nonprofit organization
Demonstrated expertise in nonprofit grant administration, including compliance and reporting for government, corporate, and foundation funding
Strong background in audit readiness, financial reporting, budgeting support, and oversight of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger activity
Solid knowledge of U.S. accounting principles and financial reporting standards
Hands-on experience with enterprise accounting platforms
Sage Intacct proficiency is strongly preferred, along with advanced Excel skills
Clear written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present financial information effectively to varied audiences
Ability to work flexible hours when business needs require additional support during critical reporting periods
