Hermeus is a high-speed aircraft manufacturer focused on the rapid design, build, and test of high-Mach and hypersonic aircraft for the national interest. Working directly with the Department of Defense, Hermeus delivers capabilities that will ensure that our nation, and our allies, maintain an asymmetric advantage over any and all potential adversaries. We are seeking an Avionics Integration Engineer to support vehicle avionics hardware from design release through assembly, test, and final delivery. In this role, you will be a critical part of a cross-disciplinary team supporting aggressive development timelines for every electrical system on-vehicle. This position influences design and system architecture trades based on manufacturability and performance during test. You will also support standing up our internal AVI shop as we develop and qualify processes to produce harnesses, build boxes, and perform checkouts.
Job Responsibility:
Provide design feedback for manufacturability, assembly, test, integration, and transport
Establish and maintain build roadmaps for assemblies you own
to ensure alignment between key stakeholders, drive hardware and tooling on-time deliveries, minimize build serialization, and escalate and eliminate blockers
Develop and release build CONOPS, work instructions, standard processes and procedures, and optimize existing processes to enable high quality, high speed execution
Support first article builds in a fast-paced, early-development environment
Own design, process, and CapEx trades to support build and unlock key capabilities, and contribute to development of long-term, scalable manufacturing systems and infrastructure
Drive make-vs.-buy decisions
collaborate with Engineering and Supply Chain
Provide hands-on floor support during build and test
Drive continuous improvement measures across the factory, including tooling, ERP / MES workflows, and internal standards and specifications
Requirements:
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field
3+ years of hands-on experience building hardware in a manufacturing or integration environment
Familiar with aerospace assembly best practices
Experience writing build and test procedures for technicians and specialists
Exposure to electrical harness design and mechanical routing in 3D CAD software
Collaborate with integrated product teams to ensure system-level avionics design meets needs for structures, propulsion, and software systems integration and test
Comfortable communicating across design, manufacturing, supply chain, test, and logistics teams to ensure hardware quality and pace of execution
Self-starter who can define and roll out new processes from scratch, working collaboratively with technicians, engineers, and external vendors
Proficient in CAD, basic design or test analysis, and first-principles hand calculations
Must be willing to be hands-on in a manufacturing and test environment daily
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and work safely around high-pressure systems and industrial equipment
Extended or flexible hours may be required to support critical build and test milestones
Nice to have:
Experience supporting aerospace, defense, or other mission-critical mechanical hardware
Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
Experience authoring and improving work instructions, travelers, and build documentation
Familiarity with PLM/MES systems and production change control in a regulated environment
Hands-on exposure to tooling, fixtures, or assembly aids on the manufacturing floor
