Insurance Defense Attorney

Job Description

Manage a caseload of insurance defense matters from inception through resolution. Handle all phases of litigation, including case assessment, written discovery, depositions, motion practice, mediations, arbitrations, and trial preparation. Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal documents. Appear in court for hearings, conferences, and trials. Communicate regularly with clients, carriers, opposing counsel, and internal stakeholders regarding case strategy and status updates. Evaluate liability, damages, and exposure in contested claims. Negotiate settlements and participate in alternative dispute resolution proceedings. Conduct legal research and provide strategic recommendations based on applicable law and case developments. Maintain accurate case files, billing records, and compliance with court deadlines.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Active license and good standing in Tennessee
  • 3-5+ years of litigation experience, with insurance defense experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of civil procedure, evidence, and litigation strategy
  • Experience taking depositions, arguing motions, and managing cases independently
  • Trial experience is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Nice to have

  • Insurance defense experience preferred
  • Trial experience is a plus
