Job Description

A hands-on instrumentation technician role based in San Diego, CA. The Instrument Test Technician is accountable for performing calibration, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of laboratory equipment in a regulated manufacturing environment. The role requires independent execution of moderate to complex projects, strong technical writing skills, and direct interaction with internal and external customers. This is a full-time, on-site contract position with the possibility of extension.

Job Responsibility

  • Perform calibration, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of laboratory equipment
  • Develop, execute, and document validation-related activities in a timely manner
  • Read, understand, and work from technical manuals, SOPs, and schematics
  • Develop, review, and revise departmental procedures as required
  • Execute moderate to complex projects with limited supervision
  • Educate end users on basic calibration principles, requirements, and preventive maintenance
  • Perform record keeping and data management — entering equipment history records, running reports, and verifying data
  • Assist with equipment inventory reconciliation and refurbish surplus/unused equipment
  • Represent the instrumentation team professionally to internal/external customers and vendors
  • Operate independently within a team environment
  • drive company vehicles to equipment sites as needed

Requirements

  • Minimum 5-7 years of related work experience with laboratory or hospital equipment
  • Minimum 5 years of direct experience with ISO standards (9001:2008, 10012, 17025, or 13485)
  • Experience with system databases such as SAP, CalMan, Microsoft Access, Project, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • A.S., B.A., or CST Certification is desirable
  • Current, valid, unrestricted California Driver's License with a clean driving record required
  • Must be able to frequently lift laboratory equipment (centrifuges, pumps, motors, etc.)
  • Must be available for occasional overtime beyond 40 hrs/day or 8 hrs/day
  • PPE required on-site: safety glasses, gloves, safety shoes
  • No drug screening required

Nice to have

Knowledge of refrigeration equipment calibration, maintenance, and repair is a plus
