Kansas State University’s School of Music, Theatre, and Dance is seeking an Instructor/Teaching Assistant Professor of Acting/Directing with an emphasis in Musical Theatre. The ideal candidate must be proficient in teaching at all levels, guided by principles of team teaching and collaboration.
Job Responsibility:
Direct 1 or 2 productions a year, consisting of a music theatre production and/or chamber opera
Teach fundamental and/or advanced theatre courses
Maintain an active professional profile
Participate in departmental activities, production meetings, recruitment efforts, and student mentorship
Requirements:
Master's degree in Theatre, Music, Musical Theatre, or related field (Instructor)
Terminal degree in Theatre, Music or Musical Theatre (Teaching Assistant Professor)
Demonstrated expertise in Musical Theatre performance and direction with a record of professional experience in the field of musical theatre and theatre
Demonstrated experience teaching acting, directing, or courses related to musical theatre at the collegiate level
A strong commitment to K-State's principles of community in theatre education and production
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Nice to have:
Experience directing operas or teaching opera/musical theatre workshops
Familiarity with practices of intimacy direction and consent training
Active participation in professional organizations, conferences, and networks related to performing and directing
Interest and experience in other acting/directing areas such as Choreography, Improvisation, and Stage Movement
Professionally affiliated in such organizations as Actors’ Equity Association (AEA), The Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC), or others
Demonstrated commitment to advancing inclusive excellence through research, teaching, and creative practice
