The Instructional Senior Designer is responsible for leading the design and development of learning programs that support business objectives and are aligned with Air Canada’s strategic ambition to become a global top-ten airline in everything we do. This role requires a strong passion for supporting people in their development and providing employees with outstanding learning programs and opportunities to enhance their skills.
Job Responsibility:
Consult with business units to identify organizational learning objectives
Apply instructional design models, learning theories and creativity to design effective learning programs
Conduct Train-the-Trainer workshops to qualify instructors to deliver training
Ensure quality by adhering to sound adult learning principles
Select and incorporate technologies that support learning resources and assessments
Guide subject matter experts in the design and development of learning programs
Choose appropriate learning strategies and media that support learning outcomes
Consult, guide, and project management deliverables throughout the learning design phases while engaging with both internal and external stakeholders as required
Maintain broad industry knowledge and understanding of marketplace trends to develop best-in-class learning solutions
Travel within Canada or the USA to support training design activities
Support cross-functional training team initiatives
Requirements:
Masters in Education, Curriculum Design or Educational Technology preferred
5+ years of experience in a senior instructional design role
2+ years in learning consulting roles
3+ years in a customer-oriented role in the airline, hospitality or service industries
Strong interpersonal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to leverage both creativity and instructional design theory to create innovative and effective learning programs
High adaptability and the ability to work with ambiguity
Willingness and ability to travel on short notice for various periods (up to 20% of the time)
Sound knowledge of instructional systems design and instructional design models
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English (French is an asset)
Excellent knowledge of technology required to enable effective online, leader-led, social, virtual, and mobile learning experiences
Ability to work under pressure, assess priorities and manage strict deadlines
Capable of offering creative designs for blended learning environments incorporating both synchronous and asynchronous options
Demonstrate punctuality and dependability to support overall team success in a fast-paced environment
Candidates must be eligible to work in the country of interest
Nice to have:
Previous experience in a corporate setting is an asset
Previous facilitation experience is an asset
Certificate in project management or change management is a definite asset
