The Infrastructure Maintenance Operative will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and operations of park infrastructure, including buildings, sports pavilions, play areas, and hard landscapes. The role involves both proactive and reactive maintenance tasks to ensure that all infrastructure assets are safe, functional, and well-maintained. The Infrastructure Maintenance Operative is responsible for the upkeep, repair, and general maintenance of all infrastructure within parks and open spaces to the highest standard. This includes buildings, sports pavilions, playgrounds, and other amenities. The operative plays a crucial role in ensuring that these areas are safe, clean, and fully functional for public use.
Job Responsibility:
The day-to-day maintenance and operations of park infrastructure, including buildings, sports pavilions, play areas, and hard landscapes
The upkeep, repair, and general maintenance of all infrastructure within parks and open spaces to the highest standard
Work full 8-hour days, Monday to Friday, spending the majority of the day on your feet while assisting in coordinating and carrying out maintenance tasks
Support the planning and execution of scheduled maintenance tasks, ensuring compliance with all health and safety regulations
Carry out any additional duties as required by the line manager
Perform tasks such as lifting heavy materials, operating power tools (drills, grinders, stone cutters, etc.), and using hand tools for repairs and installations, playground equipment repairs, drains clearance, paths repairs etc
Collaborate with and support two teams to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and safely
Safely drive company vehicles both on public roads and within park premises
Carry out maintenance and repair work in all weather conditions, including extreme cold, heat, rain, or snow
Undertake complex repairs and installations in parks and playgrounds, which may involve working at heights (using ladders, scaffolding), heavy lifting, and using power tools
Repair park pathways and brick structures, which involves digging, heavy lifting, using vibratory compacting plates, and demolishing old structures
Operate heavy machinery such as diggers, loaders, and hydraulic breakers to carry out infrastructure maintenance tasks
Install park furniture (benches, bins, planters) and playground equipment, requiring the use of heavy tools and machinery
Ensure the safety of the team and the public at all times by adhering to health and safety regulations and best practices
Complete relevant paperwork and update software systems before and after work to ensure accurate records of maintenance activities
Be available for after-hours call-outs, performing emergency repairs outside of regular work hours, including evenings
Requirements:
Familiarity with park environments and experience in workforce supervision is desirable
Relevant certifications for operating heavy machinery and working at heights are preferred
RPii (Register of Play Inspectors International) registration is advantageous
To act in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act and the Glendale Health and Safety Policy at all times
To carry out instructions from your Line Manager in accordance with Glendale’s Health and Safety Policy, Glendale’s Codes of Practice, Glendale’s Quality Management Systems and the Employee Handbook
To be knowledgeable of Health and safety regulations within your workplace and the activities that you are carrying out
Ensure you have completed the necessary induction and health and safety modules prior to commencement of any works
You must be responsible for the health and safety of yourself and that of others, in your working environment
To promote safe working practices at all times and to ensure that all equipment is safe to use
To ensure that you are knowledgeable of the suitability of all machinery/equipment used in accordance with the task you are doing and it is safe to use
To ensure the correct use of all machinery/equipment in accordance with its handbook
To ensure that any machinery/equipment that does not operate correctly is reported immediately to your Line Manager and a defect tag is filled out and attached
To ensure that any check/maintenance sheets are completed and passed to your Line Manager
To ensure that all machinery/equipment is secured at all times (when not in use)
To ensure that you are aware of your tasks and targets for each day and to ensure that you are fully aware of the standard required for each task
To monitor and maintain your work output to a satisfactory level and standard
To ensure that you conduct yourself in a polite and friendly manner at all times
To ensure that any associated administration is completed and returned to the office within the required timescales
To ensure that you operate your duties in a way that minimises our impact upon the environment
To ensure that any spillage of fuels or chemicals are dealt with quickly and efficiently and in accordance with the regulations
