We are partnering with a leading manufacturing company seeking an experienced Employment & Industrial Relations Lawyer to support the business during a period of transition in the legal team. This role will provide critical support on employment, industrial relations and workplace safety matters across the organisation on a part-time or full-time basis (either hybrid or fully remote) for 6+ months. Ideal candidates will have 5+ years of labour and employment experience, with particular experience working with unions in the manufacturing sector.
Job Responsibility:
Manage workplace relations and industrial relations matters end-to-end, from initial instructions through to resolution
Appear before the Fair Work Commission (FWC) in relation to employment and industrial disputes
Work closely with Workplace Relations and HR teams to conduct investigations (e.g. conduct, bullying/harassment, grievances)
Advise on and support processes involving termination of employment, performance management and injury management/return-to-work
Provide practical, risk-based advice on employment, industrial relations and WHS matters in a manufacturing environment
Engage with unions (AMWU, CFMEU, ETU) and support the business in union-related consultations, disputes and negotiations
Requirements:
Qualified lawyer with 5+ years of experience and a current, active practising certificate in Australia
Strong experience in employment law and industrial relations, ideally gained in-house and/or within a reputable law firm
Proven experience working with unions (AMWU, CFMEU, ETU highly regarded)
Comfortable managing matters autonomously and working closely with HR/WR stakeholders
Pragmatic, commercial and solutions-focused, with excellent communication skills
