Job Description

NYAS are looking to recruit Self-Employed Social Workers to work alongside a solicitor in the NYAS tandem model, when the Court have appointed NYAS as Guardian for a child or young person in private family law proceedings, in circumstances where the parents cannot agree on what is in the best interest of their children, necessitating the child to have an independent voice and on welfare decisions about them. Listening to and hearing the children and their wishes and feelings.

Job Responsibility

  • Work alongside a solicitor in the NYAS tandem model when appointed as Guardian for a child or young person in private family law proceedings
  • Make recommendations to the Court on what decision the court should make
  • Ensure the welfare of the child is the paramount consideration
  • Complete reports and assessments
  • Work directly with children to understand their lived experiences
  • Consult where necessary with other professionals to inform assessments
  • Give oral evidence to a Court

Requirements

  • Qualified social worker
  • No less than 5 years’ experience of children’s social care
  • Registered with Social Work England
  • Organised to ensure court deadlines are met
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Resilient, confident and strong in their views
  • Compassionate and curious
  • Can form professional relationships with parents and children
  • Skills to obtain a child’s individual wishes and feelings
  • Strong analysis of risk to ensure children’s safety
  • Ability to articulate findings and recommendations in a high-quality assessment
