Job Description

We are working with a commercially driven organisation operating at the heart of the UK's transport and logistics network, supporting the movement of goods, passengers and services. They are now seeking a Legal Advisor to join their in-house legal team on a 6–9 month fixed-term contract, offering an excellent opportunity for a lawyer looking to gain broad, hands-on commercial experience in a complex, operational environment. The role is to start ASAP and will require two days per week in their offices in Kent. Reporting directly to the Head of Legal, you will provide pragmatic and commercially focused legal advice across multiple business units. The role offers significant variety and stakeholder exposure, with the legal team playing a key role in protecting the business, influencing decision-making and driving best practice. This is a highly collaborative role, suited to someone who enjoys being embedded in the business rather than operating in a purely advisory capacity.

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of commercial and operational contracts
  • Advising on procurement, liability and property matters across a diverse asset base
  • Supporting on data protection and corporate governance matters
  • Managing low-value claims, including property damage and minor personal injury
  • Assisting with debt recovery and enforcement processes
  • Advising on risk mitigation, including indemnities and disclaimers
  • Supporting development and infrastructure projects and other ad hoc matters

Requirements

  • Qualification as a Solicitor (England & Wales or commonwealth equivalent such as Australia or New Zealand)
  • Ideally at least 2 years' PQE
  • Experience in commercial contracts, with some exposure to liability and/or property law
  • A practical and solutions-oriented mindset with strong commercial awareness
  • Confident communicator with the ability to build relationships across the business
  • A proactive, team-oriented individual who enjoys variety and responsibility
