Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent
Graduate AMA approved radiology program
Registered with American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT)
CT state license
CPR certification may be required
Maintenance of continuing education credits as required by licensure
Operate CT equipment
Venipuncture certificate (where applicable)
Capable of maintaining basic life support (CPR)

Job Responsibility

Performs diagnostic computed tomography procedures
Participates in complex invasive CT exams
Some may start intravenous sites and inject intravenous contrast
Practices radiation safety
Maintain the CT equipment in good operating order
Demonstrates yearly competencies
Assess physician’s order and patient’s requisition for completeness
Documents pertinent patient and exam information
Routinely prepare examination for interpretation by the radiologist
Possess computer skills appropriate to meet departmental needs

Requirements

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) certification issued by the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT)
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) certification issued by the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT)
Registered Technologist (RT) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) registration and certification issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) needs to be obtained within 2 years
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required
Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Radiologic Technology
Typically requires 2 years of experience in a MRI Technologist role
Advanced knowledge of cross sectional anatomy and magnetic safety
Proficient in IV and venipuncture (if required by facility)
Excellent communication, interpersonal and patient service skills

Job Responsibility

Proficiently operates magnetic resonance (MR) equipment used to perform basic to advanced diagnostic procedures
Obtains medical history from patients, compares requisitions to physician's orders to ensure ordered exam accuracy, and prepares and administers contrast media under the direction of the Radiologist
Positions patient and selects proper scanning factors, adjusts factors to attain the appropriate images, and provides magnet protection and safety in accordance with regulatory agencies
Post-processes images as directed and accurately identifies and labels images identifying patient name, medical record unit (MRU) number, and location or position of scan on all images
Maintains records in accordance with various regulatory agencies and enters patient and study information into the radiology information system, and documents billing codes of procedures performed to ensure accurate patient charges
Identifies equipment performance issues and performs equipment quality assurance tests and calibration procedures
Serves as a technical resource, role model and/or preceptor for students and staff
Facilitates clinical problem solving and collaborates with other departments to provide education on managing patients after procedures and any other imaging department processes and procedures
Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique
Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served

Job Responsibility

Assist Radiologic Technologists, as requested, throughout the procedure
Clean and maintain examination table, equipment and work area
Explain procedures to patients to reduce anxiety, ensure safety, and comfort
Obtain and record patient information
Position patient on examining table, set up and adjust equipment to obtain an optimum view of specific body area as requested by the physician
Position x-ray equipment and adjust controls to set exposure factors, such as time and distance
