A well-established multi-disciplinary engineering consulting firm in Columbia, SC is seeking a Civil Engineer specializing in hydraulics and drainage to support transportation and infrastructure projects. Job Responsibility:
Design and analyze storm drainage systems, culverts, and erosion and sediment control systems for transportation and infrastructure projects
Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses using engineering software such as GEOPAK Drainage, HY-8, and HEC-RAS
Prepare drainage designs in accordance with local, state DOT, and federal standards
Complete inlet design, spread calculations, hydraulic grade line analysis, and culvert sizing
Design detention ponds and perform stormwater routing calculations for increased drainage areas and impervious surfaces
Develop airport drainage and hydraulic designs in compliance with county, DOT, and FAA standards
Prepare construction plans, technical reports, and project documentation
Produce cost estimates and support the development of engineering specifications
Coordinate stormwater permitting and regulatory requirements with relevant agencies
Support both design-bid-build and design-build infrastructure projects while collaborating with project teams and clients
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering field
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or the ability to obtain within 12 months
Experience performing hydrologic and hydraulic design for infrastructure or transportation projects
Proficiency using drainage and hydraulic modeling software such as GEOPAK Drainage, HY-8, or HEC-RAS
Strong understanding of stormwater management, culvert design, and erosion control practices
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, plans, and technical specifications
Experience preparing construction plans, cost estimates, and technical reports
Familiarity with DOT, FHWA, or municipal drainage design standards
Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
