To produce complex Hardware Application designs/Bookwirings and equipment designs that meet requirements utilizing processes based on established engineering and railway signaling principles. The Technical Specialist is a subject matter expert within the team and acts as a technical leader internally and with the customer. Leads technical decision making and provides technical direction within their area of expertise and across multiple projects. Works to resolve complex problems, in house or in the field.
Job Responsibility:
Demonstrates a high degree of initiative, and resourcefulness in solving problems
Good understanding of SelTrac Signal Plans and SelTrac Radio equipment
Good knowledge of Railway infrastructure and deployment of trackside and equipment room assets within greenfield and brownfield deployments
Demonstrates an advanced level of logical reasoning resulting in effective hardware application designs, products and processes
Interprets and writes Requirements that provide traceability from high level customer designs to low level detailed design elements
Proficient in technical writing of technical design specifications, scope of works (SoWs) and requests for proposals (RFQs)
High degree of familiarity with CENELEC and AREMA standards
Prepares specifications for hardware and/or software components
Proficient with the use of development tools, CAD packages (Microstation, AutoCAD)
Selects an appropriate design approach
Maximizes the use of existing product designs
Possesses or has the ability to gain the Hitachi Competency Management System (CMS) Designer or Principles license
When required, perform the role of a Work Package Manager on projects, collaborating with a team of 1 to 5 Designers
Assist with project-related tasks, such as planning timelines and tracking budgets to ensure project goals are met
Keeping track of progress on all tasks assigned to the SID project team
Ensuring that all project tasks proceed according to schedule, within budget, and in accordance with all requirements
Ensure that all project deliverables are completed accurately and on time (as per project schedule)
Carry out all assigned work efficiently, with a minimum of supervision
Generating accurate, supportable estimates for current departmental technology and providing estimates for technologies that are new to the department
Intimate understanding of Hitachi Work Instructions and the Chorus process
Requirements:
Post-secondary Technologist diploma or Electrical or Electronics Engineering degree
10 – 12 years of related work experience
Proficient with the use of CAD tools (Microstation, AutoCad), Bills of Materials (SAP), Configuration Management, Hitachi Change Control Process (Clearquest), and Microsoft Office suite
Good interpersonal and diplomatic skills to deal confidently, courteously, and correctly with people at any level within the organization, and the customer
Well-developed verbal skills in English to interact effectively and professionally in a variety of forums
Well-developed writing skills in English to prepare clear effective documents
