The HVAC Technician is responsible for maintaining, repairing, installing, inspecting, and adjusting commercial and industrial HVAC systems within a large manufacturing facility. This role requires advanced troubleshooting skills, experience with both pneumatic and DDC controls, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. The technician will support system reliability, respond to temperature control issues, monitor energy management systems, and ensure HVAC systems operate efficiently and safely.
Job Responsibility:
Maintain, repair, and inspect commercial and industrial HVAC systems and related components
Diagnose system malfunctions and isolate mechanical or electrical issues
Dismantle malfunctioning systems and replace or repair defective parts
Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment to ensure system reliability
Lubricate motors, fans, and control units as required
Install complete heating and air conditioning systems
Assemble and install HVAC components including compressors, pumps, valves, motors, switches, controls, and piping
Install electrical wiring to connect HVAC components to power sources
Cut, thread, weld, and connect piping to system components
Fabricate and install sheet metal ductwork and associated components
Start and test HVAC systems, monitoring gauges and instrumentation to verify proper operation
Adjust valves, actuators, pumps, and controls to maintain optimal performance
Monitor the Energy Management System (EMS) for alarms or out-of-spec conditions and respond accordingly
Record temperature, pressure, and system performance readings at scheduled intervals
Inspect systems to ensure compliance with specifications and performance standards
Interpret blueprints, system diagrams, and technical specifications
Estimate and plan HVAC repair or installation work
Coordinate work activities and provide direction to other workers assisting with HVAC projects
Inspect buildings and systems to determine airflow requirements
Maintain accurate records and paperwork related to maintenance and service activities
Maintain and organize tools, equipment, and shop areas
Manage inventory of spare parts, materials, and supplies
Respond to temperature complaints and investigate HVAC performance issues
Communicate with facility staff to diagnose system concerns and implement solutions
Attend technical training, classes, and seminars to maintain knowledge of HVAC technology and system design
Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Graduate of a certified HVAC technical program preferred
Minimum 10 years of HVAC experience in commercial or industrial environments
Equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience will be considered
Valid Driver’s License
EPA 608 Universal Certification
Type I – Small Appliances
Type II – High Pressure / Very High Pressure Appliances
Type III – Low Pressure Appliances
Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification
Forklift and Aerial Lift Certification (or ability to obtain)
Extensive knowledge of commercial and industrial HVAC systems
Experience with pneumatic and DDC control systems
Proficiency reading blueprints, schematics, and system diagrams
Ability to operate refrigerant recovery equipment, vacuum pumps, charging equipment, and service gauges
Experience with pipe fitting, brazing, welding, and sheet metal fabrication
Familiarity with energy management systems (EMS)
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Strong organizational and documentation skills
Ability to interpret safety procedures and operating manuals
Basic math skills including fractions, ratios, and percentages
Ability to communicate effectively with team members and facility personnel
