Perform duties expected of an HVAC/R mechanical technician at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) in Bethesda, Maryland. Work from verbal or written instructions, sketches, diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and vendor manuals. All work must comply with applicable federal, state, and municipal codes and facility specifications. Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on real property facilities and equipment, including component replacement. Perform all work in a safe and secure manner. Must have practical knowledge of worksite safety, occupational hazards, and standard safety practices. Must possess the ability to communicate effectively and work well with customers, other employees, and management in a healthcare and military environment.
Job Responsibility:
Install, maintain, repair, troubleshoot, and provide operational support for commercial and industrial HVAC/R systems
Perform preventive maintenance and respond to service requests to ensure reliable system operation
Inspect, diagnose, and repair HVAC/R equipment and associated mechanical and electrical components
Handle refrigerant and service natural gas and propane gas systems in compliance with safety standards
Perform basic pipe-fitting, soldering, and brazing as required
Service refrigeration systems including walk-in coolers, freezers, rack systems, and cooling towers
Maintain and repair chillers (scroll, screw, reciprocating, and centrifugal)
Service package units, split-system air conditioners, rooftop units (RTUs), air handlers, exhaust fans, return fans, and make-up air (MUA) units
Maintain and troubleshoot VAV systems, re-heat coils, ductwork, heat pumps, furnaces, and boilers (hot water and steam)
Service converter systems including high-temperature hot water (HTHW), medium-temperature hot water (MTHW), and domestic hot water (DMHW) systems
Repair and maintain pumps, motors, motor starters, variable frequency drives (VFDs), motor control centers (MCCs), and electrical disconnects
Service air compressors, air dryers, and electronic and pneumatic control systems
Perform repairs including replacement of pump seals, motor bearings, air filters, belts, sheaves, and related components
Support and troubleshoot Building Automation Systems (BAS) / Building Automation Controls to monitor system performance and correct deficiencies
Ensure all mechanical systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable codes and regulations
Work in various environments including mechanical rooms, rooftops, and confined spaces
Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements:
Has active security clearance or ability to obtain and maintain after hire
High School Diploma or equivalent
Active Maryland, Virginia or DC HVAC License
Universal CFC Certification
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
Ability to read and understand blueprints
OSHA 10 highly preferred
