Job Description

This position exists to maintain asset availability, ensure safe operation of HV infrastructure and resolve both electrical and SCADA-related faults across operational BESS sites. The BESS Technician will play a direct role in minimising downtime, supporting grid compliance and maintaining the responsiveness of storage assets connected to the UK electricity network.

Job Responsibility

  • Carry out preventative and corrective maintenance across BESS sites, including fault response and equipment replacement
  • Perform HV switching, testing and fault finding across transformers, switchgear and associated electrical infrastructure
  • Diagnose and resolve SCADA, PLC and communications issues to maintain site connectivity and operational performance
  • Support grid compliance activities and ensure all work is completed in line with HV safety procedures and regulations

Requirements

  • Electrical Engineering qualification such as HNC, HND or equivalent City & Guilds
  • Experience within utility-scale BESS, Solar PV or related HV infrastructure environments
  • HV Authorisation or demonstrable capability to progress toward SAP status
  • Strong understanding of SCADA systems, industrial communications and fault diagnostics
  • Ability to work independently within field-based operational environments while maintaining high safety standards

  • Execute critical maintenance procedures - carrying out preventive and corrective maintenance on BESS assets including BMS, inverters, switchgear and SCADA interfaces to ensure safe, reliable system performance
  • Apply OEM-aligned technical standards - performing maintenance and testing activities strictly in line with OEM manuals, procedures and engineering documentation
  • Diagnose and resolve system issues - identifying faults across electrical, control and communication systems and implementing effective troubleshooting to restore optimal operation
  • Conduct essential testing and verification - completing point-to-point checks, insulation resistance tests and other verification tasks to validate system integrity
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reporting - preparing detailed maintenance records, technical reports, job status updates and customer-facing documentation with precision and clarity
  • Collaborate across project and site teams - coordinating with commissioning leads, project managers and subcontractors to ensure maintenance activities support project goals and performance standards
  • Champion safety, quality and asset protection - adhering to all EHS policies, safeguarding company equipment and IP, and contributing to the improvement of engineering standards, method statements and risk assessments
