We are looking for an experienced Human Resources Manager to lead employee and labor relations initiatives for a healthcare organization in California. This role is responsible for guiding managers through complex workplace matters, strengthening HR practices, and supporting a productive, compliant work environment. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in union environments, employee relations strategy, and policy interpretation, along with the ability to balance operational needs with organizational goals.
Job Responsibility:
Lead employee and labor relations activities, providing direction on workplace concerns, investigations, and conflict resolution across the organization
Serve as a key representative in grievance discussions, arbitration proceedings, and other employment-related hearings involving union or employee matters
Participate in collective bargaining efforts, helping prepare negotiation strategies and supporting outcomes that align with financial, operational, and strategic objectives
Advise and coach supervisors and leaders on performance management, corrective action, policy application, and legally sound employment practices
Oversee assigned HR staff by setting expectations, delivering feedback, conducting evaluations, and supporting career development
Design and deliver training for managers and teams on labor relations, employee relations, workplace compliance, and related human resources topics
Develop, refine, and interpret HR policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure consistency with organizational standards and regulatory requirements
Monitor departmental operating, staffing, and capital budgets, using data and reporting to support planning and decision-making
Partner with hospital leaders, physicians, and cross-functional teams to drive collaborative solutions that improve employee experience and organizational effectiveness
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a closely related discipline required
an advanced degree in Human Resources or Business Management is strongly preferred
At least seven years of progressive human resources management experience, including substantial responsibility for employee relations and labor relations
Proven background in labor contract negotiations, grievance handling, and representation during arbitration or similar formal proceedings
Strong knowledge of collective bargaining agreement administration, wage and hour requirements, and applicable state and federal employment laws
Demonstrated success leading, supervising, and developing staff in a management or supervisory capacity
Ability to analyze complex employment issues, interpret policies and contract language, and recommend practical, well-supported solutions
Excellent communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills, with experience training leaders and working effectively with diverse stakeholder groups
Valid California Class C driver’s license required at the time of employment
