The Human Resources Generalist will serve as the primary point of contact for all leave of absence and workplace accommodation matters. This role is critical in ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations while providing a supportive and engaging employee experience. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, empathetic, and experienced in navigating complex leave and accommodation processes.
Job Responsibility:
Administer all aspects of employee leaves of absence, including FMLA, CFRA, ADA, pregnancy disability leave (PDL), and other state/local leave programs
Serve as the primary liaison for employees requesting leaves or workplace accommodations, ensuring a supportive and confidential process
Manage the interactive process for accommodation requests in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
Track, monitor, and maintain accurate leave records, documentation, and reporting
Partner with managers to support leave planning, coverage, and smooth employee transitions
Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and nonprofit regulations
Coordinate with benefits providers and third-party administrators (if applicable) regarding leave claims and disability benefits
Provide guidance and training to managers and employees on leave policies and accommodation procedures
Assist with policy development and updates related to leave and accommodations
Support broader HR functions as needed, including employee relations and HR operations
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
3+ years of HR experience, with a strong emphasis on leave of absence administration and accommodations
In-depth knowledge of FMLA, CFRA, ADA, and California leave laws
Experience managing sensitive and complex employee situations with professionalism and empathy
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
High level of discretion and confidentiality
Experience with HRIS systems and leave tracking tools
Nice to have:
HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP, or similar)
Experience in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization
Familiarity with workers’ compensation and disability leave coordination
