Seeking a collaborative and proactive Human Resources Business Partner to support retail operations across Japan and South Korea. This role will manage day-to-day HR activities while contributing to local people strategy and initiatives in a growing retail environment. Based in Tokyo, with regular interaction at store locations, this position partners closely with regional and global stakeholders and serves as the primary HR contact for retail teams in both markets.The successful candidate will play a key role in talent acquisition, employee engagement, HR operations, and supporting new store openings.
Job Responsibility:
Partner with internal recruitment stakeholders to support hiring for both office and retail positions, providing local market insight and HR expertise
Work closely with regional leaders and store management to understand workforce needs and identify candidates aligned with organizational values
Support sourcing initiatives to attract diverse and high-quality talent
Manage onboarding processes to ensure smooth and effective integration of new hires
Develop and support initiatives aimed at improving employee engagement, motivation, and retention
Coordinate payroll activities with external payroll vendors to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely processing
Review and validate payroll-related data including attendance, incentives, and deductions
Respond to payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies efficiently
Maintain accurate employee records and manage employment documentation, including contracts, amendments, and separations
Support visa and work authorization processes when required
Serve as the primary HR contact for employees, advising on policies, procedures, and employee relations matters
Partner with managers to promote a positive workplace culture and alignment with organizational values
Handle employee concerns and support conflict resolution when necessary
Support managers through performance review cycles, goal setting, and development planning
Provide coaching and guidance on HR-related people management topics
Ensure adherence to local labor laws, regulations, and internal policies
Maintain HR data accuracy and prepare reports as required
Oversee day-to-day office operations and general services to ensure an efficient working environment
Plan and support internal events and initiatives that encourage collaboration, recognize achievements, and enhance the employee experience
Requirements:
Minimum of 7 years of HR experience in Japan
experience within retail or consumer-focused environments is preferred
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
Strong understanding of payroll processes and coordination with external providers
Solid knowledge of Japanese employment law, employee relations best practices, and recruitment processes
Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt in a fast-paced, evolving environment
Strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills
