We are looking for a detail-oriented Human Resources Assistant to support daily HR operations for a transport organization in Savannah, Georgia. This position will begin at 25-30 hours per week with the opportunity to increase hours in the future. This contract opportunity with potential for a permanent role is ideal for someone who can balance recruiting, onboarding, record maintenance, and HR system accuracy while providing dependable administrative support. The role also involves coordinating interviews, maintaining organized personnel documentation, and helping ensure timekeeping information is correct for the finance team.
Job Responsibility
Coordinate interviews for general labor positions and support ongoing recruiting activities to help maintain staffing levels
Guide new team members through the onboarding process, including follow-up on screening requirements and preparation of employment documentation
Maintain complete and accurate personnel records, ensuring employee files are current and properly organized
Review timekeeping details for accuracy and provide correct hours information to the finance team and staffing partners as needed
Update and maintain employee data within Paychex and other HR information systems to support reliable reporting and recordkeeping
Assist with drafting and refining department standard operating procedures to improve consistency across HR processes
Gather relevant facts related to routine employee concerns and escalate matters appropriately when additional review is needed
Support documentation for attendance-related corrective actions and other basic employee relations matters
Communicate contract employee hours to staffing agencies and help ensure workforce records remain aligned across sources
Requirements
Experience supporting HR administration in a fast-paced business environment
Working knowledge of HRIS platforms, including Paychex, with the ability to keep employee records accurate
Hands-on experience with onboarding, interview scheduling, and pre-employment processes such as background checks
Familiarity with employee relations support, including documenting attendance issues and escalating concerns appropriately
Ability to maintain confidential information with discretion and strong attention to detail
Comfortable reviewing timekeeping data and coordinating with finance or external staffing partners
Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple HR tasks effectively
Experience assisting with or creating departmental SOPs is preferred
