As a key partner to the People function, the Human Resources Business Partner will play a central role in strengthening our HR foundation as the company continues to expand. This position focuses on building scalable processes, improving the employee journey, and ensuring our HR operations run with accuracy, consistency, and compliance. We’re looking for someone who thrives in a fast-moving environment, enjoys optimizing systems, and brings a thoughtful, data-informed approach to people operations.
Job Responsibility:
Oversee and refine HR workflows across the entire employee lifecycle, from initial onboarding through departure
Administer and optimize HR platforms-including HRIS/PEO systems, applicant tracking tools, learning systems, and payroll-while maintaining clean, reliable data
Conduct routine audits of HR and payroll information and produce operational reports for leadership
Coordinate onboarding, offboarding, and internal mobility processes for both employees and contractors
Provide responsive, confidential support to employees and managers
Manage benefits programs, including annual selections, enrollment, and ongoing administration
Maintain accurate employee records and ensure adherence to federal, state, and local employment regulations
Partner with Legal on immigration matters
Lead compensation and workforce analytics, including pay equity reviews and demographic reporting
Collaborate with Finance to fulfill data requests and support cross-functional audits
Support the design and execution of compensation strategies, including salary reviews and organizational planning
Contribute to the development of performance management and career growth frameworks
Work closely with Finance, Legal, IT, and Talent Acquisition to create seamless, integrated HR processes
Assist with recruiting initiatives, including interview coordination and candidate assessments when needed
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree plus 5-8+ years of progressive HR/People Operations experience
Experience working in a rapidly scaling startup environment (required)
Background in biotech or life sciences is highly advantageous
Demonstrated ability to build and scale HR processes for distributed teams
Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
Proficiency with modern HR systems (HRIS, ATS, LMS, payroll) and collaboration tools
Strong analytical and communication skills
Proven ability to handle sensitive information with discretion
Solid understanding of multi-state employment regulations
California expertise preferred
Adaptable, proactive, and comfortable working hands-on in a dynamic environment
