Job Description:

A professional with experience in the oil and gas industry, to ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards in all operations. This role is crucial for maintaining a strong safety culture and supporting offshore and onshore projects in alignment with international standards and local regulations.

Job Responsibility:

  • Implement and maintain HSEQ management systems in compliance with ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and client-specific requirements
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and inspections for offshore and onshore operations
  • Monitor and report HSEQ performance indicators, including incident reports, near misses, and corrective actions
  • Develop and deliver HSEQ training programs for employees and contractors, focusing on oil and gas operational risks
  • Ensure compliance with Suriname’s environmental and safety regulations and manage waste disposal processes responsibly
  • Investigate incidents and prepare detailed reports with root cause analysis and recommendations
  • Liaise with clients, regulatory bodies, and internal teams on HSEQ matters
  • Support emergency response planning and drills for offshore and onshore facilities
  • Maintain accurate documentation for audits, certifications, and client reporting

Requirements:

  • Experience in HSEQ in oil and gas operations (offshore and onshore)
  • Solid knowledge of international HSEQ standards and Suriname regulatory requirements
  • Familiarity with work permit systems, confined space entry (CSE), and classified area safety
  • Certification in NEBOSH, OSHA, or equivalent is highly desirable
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HSEQ reporting tools

  • Acts as the subject matter expert (SME) on all aspects of safety, health and in some cases environment, including the Seaspan ULC Safety Management System
  • Provides expertise for the development of administrative controls in conjunction with the joint Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) committees
  • Continuous collaboration with management, safety and health committees, unionized employees, major customers and contractors for the company regarding proactive solutions to safety and health related problems
  • Provides expertise to ensure that the workplace meets all applicable occupational health and safety standards
  • Provides leadership and guidance to the ship Safety Officers and shore-based workers
  • Coordinates workplace audits and inspections (shore and shipboard) to evaluate compliance with regulatory standards, best practices and Seaspan ULC corporate policies
  • Interfaces with the client regarding client-specific safety-related requirements, reporting and record keeping
  • Seeks to understand the safety culture and behaviours that drive how work is performed and managed in the workplace
  • Educates, coaches and challenges workers and supervisors with respect to their roles and responsibilities in workplace health and safety
  • Monitors the training matrix to ensure workers and supervisors comply
