Reporting to the Health & Safety Manager, the Safety Superintendent is responsible for the delivery of strategies, managing governance and systems compliance requirements as well as providing specialist technical advice and support to the site’s under and above ground mining operations, including the mentoring of site Health and Safety specialists.
Job Responsibility:
Management of the site risk and compliance registers
Establish, lead and monitor safety programs and systems to effectively manage high consequence safety risks
Manage all aspects of occupational health and hygiene management including monitoring and statutory reporting
Manage the Emergency Response and Site Medic Teams, to ensure incident and injury management procedures are followed
Ensure H&S management is integrated into site operational planning and decision making
Promote strong incident reporting and response culture
Assist in the reporting and investigation of incidents and near misses and ensure relevant persons are advised in a timely manner
Facilitate and coach high quality incident investigations (ICAM)
Collaborate with Learning & Development in required training programs, particularly safety compliance related training
Requirements:
Degree in Health and Safety or equivalent with a thorough understanding of management techniques
Thorough understanding of the WHS legislation in Australia, in particular SA mining approvals, legislation and processes
Knowledge of investigation techniques such as ICAM and 5-whys
Significant experience (+10 years) in mining (or similar) industry
Excellent MS Word, PowerPoint & Excel spreadsheet skills
Current C Class driver’s license

Preference will be given to applicants with similar hard rock underground mining experience
