Job Description

We are seeking an experienced HSE consultant for a long term (12 month) contract opportunity with a heavy civil construction client of ours in the Calgary area. This role requires a robust working knowledge of Western Canadian safety programs and heavy civil infrastructure. As a safety leader, you will spend significant time in the field ensuring strict safety compliance across complex tunneling operations. Because our client coordinates highly complex infrastructure crossings under highways, railways, and waterways, risk management and proactive safety compliance are critical.

Job Responsibility

  • On-Site Safety Oversight: Conduct regular site safety inspections and audits across dynamic project locations utilizing advanced trenchless technologies
  • Regulatory & Program Compliance: Maintain, uphold, and implement site safety plans in strict alignment with COR standards and WCB regulations
  • Subcontractor & Client Management: Manage and monitor contractor safety performance metrics via ISNetworld (ISNET)
  • Incident Investigation: Lead comprehensive root-cause analyses for near-misses or site incidents, compiling detailed reports and implementing corrective actions
  • Hazard Assessment: Develop and review Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHAs) and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) tailored to specialized tunneling environments
  • Safety Culture Leadership: Facilitate toolbox talks, safety meetings, and site orientations

Requirements

  • NCSO (National Construction Safety Officer) designation strictly required
  • Minimum 3-5 years progressive health and safety experience in heavy civil construction, oil and gas infrastructure, or pipeline/trenchless technology sectors
  • Hands-on experience with ISNetworld, COR frameworks, and provincial WCB programs
  • Prior safety oversight on projects using Direct Pipe, Microtunneling, or Horizontal Auger Boring (highly preferred)
  • Willing and able to travel frequently to regional project sites
  • Must pass background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol testing
