HSE Manager Location: Wakefield Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience Working Pattern: Full time / Site based We’re working in partnership with a well‑established FMCG manufacturing business to recruit an experienced HSE Manager for a key site‑based leadership role. This is a high‑impact position supporting the site management team to ensure effective Health, Safety and Environmental management systems are in place, fully compliant with legal requirements and company policy. You’ll lead the delivery of the HSE strategy at site level, driving standards, engagement and continuous improvement across manufacturing and depot operations. The Role You’ll take ownership of Health, Safety and Environmental performance at site level, acting as a trusted adviser to senior leaders and line managers while embedding a strong, proactive HSE culture. Key responsibilities include: Leading the rollout of the national HSE strategy and translating this into effective site‑level plans Ensuring HSE management systems meet legal, regulatory and internal standards Providing accurate, timely and pragmatic HSE advice to senior leaders and line managers Driving a positive HSE culture through coaching, engagement and accountability at all levels Monitoring HSE performance indicators and ensuring continuous improvement in site standards Investigating incidents, accidents, audits and risk assessments, ensuring actions are completed effectively Supporting internal and external audits, including regulatory inspections Identifying site HSE training needs and delivering cost‑effective learning solutions Managing local HSE spend within budget Working closely with contractors to ensure safe systems of work are followed Contributing to wider business and company‑wide HSE improvement projects

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a Health, Safety & Environment role, ideally within FMCG or manufacturing
  • NEBOSH Certificate (NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent, or working towards)
  • IOSH membership (or working towards Chartered status)
  • IEMA Environmental Foundation Certificate (IEMA Associate Certificate desirable for permitted sites)
  • Strong working knowledge of UK Health, Safety and Environmental legislation
  • Experience supporting and leading internal and external audits
  • Knowledge of ISO14001 and OHSAS18001 / ISO45001 management systems
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and advise at all levels
  • Strong relationship‑building skills with the ability to establish credibility quickly
  • A pragmatic, solutions‑focused approach that positions HSE as a business enabler
  • Confident, decisive and comfortable taking ownership and accountability
