Job Description:

We are looking for a dedicated HR/Payroll Director to oversee payroll processes and human resources functions in Cypress, California. This role offers an opportunity to manage a variety of HR and payroll responsibilities for a workforce that includes both union and non-union employees. The ideal candidate will have experience in payroll operations and a proactive approach to employee relations and organizational tasks.

Job Responsibility:

  • Manage weekly payroll processing and input using QuickBooks, ensuring accuracy and compliance
  • Oversee employee relations for a team of approximately 120 individuals, including union and non-union staff
  • Coordinate recruitment activities, including paperwork for new employees, onboarding, and termination processes
  • Administer employee benefits programs and respond to inquiries related to workers’ compensation claims
  • Maintain the HR inbox and address employee concerns promptly and professionally
  • Ensure compliance with workers' compensation laws and manage related documentation
  • Promote organizational efficiency by implementing HR best practices and maintaining accurate records
  • Provide guidance on HR policies and support managers in addressing employee-related issues
  • Take initiative in improving HR processes, fostering effective communication, and driving organizational goals

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • SHRM Certification is a huge plus
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in payroll and human resources management
  • Proficiency in full-cycle payroll operations, including managing union and non-union payroll
  • Experience working in the construction industry is highly preferred
  • Familiarity with QuickBooks Enterprise is ideal
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask effectively
  • Excellent communication skills with a proactive approach to addressing employee needs
  • Knowledge of workers’ compensation laws and related processes

  • Prepare and issue all manual payroll checks for off‑cycle payments and final payments at offboarding
  • Process bi‑weekly 401(k) contributions, garnishments, payroll tax filings, and related reporting
  • Reconcile payroll with external partners, including the outside accounting firm, benefit brokers, and 401(k) plan administrators and advisors
  • Respond to payroll inquiries and employment verification requests
  • Serve as admin for HR and payroll modules within Paylocity, including HRIS updates, compliance features, and ACA dashboard management
  • Ensure all employees are assigned to correct benefit classes and that system data remains accurate and up to date
  • Maintain all employee changes in Paylocity, including job movements, leaves of absence, departmental reorganizations, and general updates
  • Assist employees with benefit and 401(k) questions, including enrollments, qualifying life events, contribution changes, and coverage details
  • Partner with the HR Director to support annual open enrollment activities (July–November)
