We are looking for an HR Generalist to support a growing team in California through a contract-to-permanent opportunity. This position is suited for a resourceful HR team member who can quickly contribute across employee relations, compliance, onboarding, and payroll coordination. The role calls for strong working knowledge of California employment practices and the ability to operate confidently in a fast-paced environment with limited oversight.
Job Responsibility:
Guide the conversion of a contractor population into employee status while helping ensure proper documentation and regulatory alignment throughout the process
Manage employee onboarding activities, including coordination of payroll enrollment and employee setup within Paychex or a comparable platform
Review, organize, and maintain personnel records to confirm files are complete, accurate, and compliant with applicable requirements
Gather and manage paper-based employee documentation, ensuring records are securely stored and readily accessible for HR needs
Provide day-to-day support for employee relations matters by responding to questions, addressing concerns, and promoting consistent HR practices
Create and deliver HR presentations or training sessions to communicate policies, procedures, and workforce expectations effectively
Work closely with internal stakeholders to implement HR processes smoothly and maintain consistency across administrative activities
Assist with compliance-focused initiatives tied to California labor standards, employee classification, and general HR administration
Requirements:
Several years of hands-on experience in Human Resources with broad exposure to generalist responsibilities
Strong understanding of California labor laws, employee classification guidelines, and HR compliance standards
Experience supporting onboarding, payroll coordination, and employee documentation processes
Familiarity with Paychex or another HRIS/payroll system is preferred
Demonstrated ability to handle employee relations matters with professionalism and sound judgment
Strong organizational skills with close attention to accuracy, recordkeeping, and follow-through
Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks effectively, and become productive with minimal training
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field is preferred
Nice to have:
