We are looking for an adaptable HR Generalist to join a construction-focused organization in Ontario, California on a Contract basis. This position supports essential people operations across payroll, employee relations, compliance, and onboarding in a collaborative and fast-moving environment. The ideal candidate brings a practical, hands-on approach to HR while building strong working relationships across the business.
Job Responsibility:
Administer end-to-end payroll activities with close attention to accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to applicable regulations
Provide day-to-day guidance on employee relations matters, including performance concerns, workplace issues, and sensitive conflict resolution
Prepare and process personnel changes such as transfers, promotions, and separations, ensuring all supporting documentation is complete and properly maintained
Monitor HR practices for compliance with federal and California employment requirements, including wage and hour standards and labor-related documentation
Coordinate leave administration and maintain clear communication with employees regarding eligibility, status updates, and required records
Manage employment verification files, including I-9 completion and record retention, while keeping employee data organized and current
Lead onboarding activities and orientation sessions that help new hires integrate smoothly into the organization
Collaborate with recruiting partners and hiring leaders to support selection decisions and improve the overall hiring process
Contribute to HR process improvements within HRIS and payroll systems to strengthen efficiency, reporting, and data accuracy
Support workplace safety and related compliance efforts in alignment with industry expectations and company standards
Requirements:
Experience in a broad HR Generalist role with responsibility for payroll, employee relations, and compliance activities
Working knowledge of federal and California employment laws, including wage and hour practices and employee record requirements
Ability to manage sensitive workplace matters with professionalism, sound judgment, and discretion
Hands-on experience with onboarding, HR administration, and employee documentation processes
Familiarity with HRIS platforms and payroll systems, with the ability to maintain accurate data and support process improvements
Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to partner effectively across teams
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities may shift and a flexible approach is needed
