Incumbent serves as HR Generalist for the Human Resources office of Student Life. This position supports and manages a variety of personnel and recruitment actions for nine individual departments that make up Student Life cluster consisting of career, contract, limited, student appointments for approximately 900+ represented and non-represented employees, full and part-time employees. Responsible for the department's recruitments (staff, contract, short-term and student). Provides policy interpretation (non-represented and collective bargaining) and consultant on HR matters (leaves, discipline) while ensuring compliance with university policies, state & federal laws, and personnel and benefits administration for staff. This position provides training (new employee/onboarding, Kronos, and supervisory) and work direction to lower level staff, limited, and student employees. Applies professional human resources, organization policies and procedures to provide guidance to supervisors and managers to resolve a variety of human resources issues of moderate scope and complexity.

Requirements
Basic knowledge of human resources policies and programs, and how they affect other organizational policies and procedures
General experience in Human Resources administration including classification/compensation, recruitment and selection, employee relations, performance management, policy and procedure, compliance management, payroll, terminations and layoffs
Experience in handling recruitments that includes familiarity with applicant tracking systems, resume databases, sourcing techniques, screening rubrics, vetting applicants, salary negotiations, and job offers
Analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations
demonstrates organizational skills and problem-solving skills
Has working knowledge of other areas of HR
Demonstrated ability to analyze information, situations, problems, policies, and procedures, separate problems from symptoms, identify potential solutions, apply solutions and formulate logical and objective conclusions from fact, situations, data and observations procedures
Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures and knowledge of functional area
Knowledge of employment laws and policies including Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action, ADA, FLSA, and guidelines concerning fair hiring, privacy, negligent hiring and defamation
Familiarity with regulatory agencies such as DFEH, EEOC and OFCCP
Knowledge of a human resources management system (HRMS), and / or other related business software programs and systems
Intermediate to Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office & Google Suite of applications (i.e., Word, Excel, Access) or similar software - to problem solving and systems development
and the ability to quickly master additional software as needed
Demonstrated ability to effectively use information technology and process redesign methodologies in creating, designing and implementing new processes
Working knowledge of content management system (CMS) platform with ability to configure, navigate, update and alter department web pages
Demonstrated ability to handle difficult or volatile situations / individuals effectively
Factfind and mediate disputes between employees, and between employees and their supervisors
Proficient in communicating clearly and effectively verbally and in writing and in integrating information in the completion of assignments
